Jib
Halyard
Experimental Biography, Currently In
Production
The
biographical Jib
Halyard emerges
from the idea that memory and fancy can allow
a person to navigate and control the body, that distraction itself is a form of agency.
Through witty intellect,
philosophy, and reminiscence, Harvey Krieger, M.D., builds
himself a world where Restless Leg and Congestive Heart
Failure dissolve in his younger days at sea.
Driven
to insomnia by Restless Leg Syndrome, an idiopathic sensorimotor
disorder, Harvey's story is a fragmentary, twilight hour
collage of storytelling, stream-of-consciousnes, and humor.
The tale twines ancient Judaic text with nautical passages
under the Brooklyn Bridge, the Civil War with cyborgs, hypothermia and his relationship to sound.
Jib
Halyard is a sailing term used to describe the line that
cinches a triangular staysail (jib) set in front of the
forwardmost mast.
