The Barber of Morelia
and Sursee Wasser
Video Installations, 2008

Sandra Binion, Chicago-based performance and installation artist, distills gestures and moments in order to create video installations with an architectonic character. She is drawn to the Gramscian "organic intellect," the quotidian versus the monumental that emphasizes the poetic everyday. She incorporates simple structural elements that carry their own associations - fabric, water, earth, hair - used as projection surfaces that redefine the cinematic space and present the viewer with a tactile relationship to the site. In both Barber as well as Wasser, Binion frames specific yet interpretable environments of carefully juxtaposed images, sounds, materials, and space.
