La Curación (The Healing)
Ethnographic Documentary, 2008

La Curación is an experiment in ethnography located in the breathing, volcanic geography of Ecuador. Told through a series of conceptual narratives (an epileptic revolutionary, a fire-breathing shaman, a poet-physician, a campesino visionary), the film reveals deeply layered understandings of health, healing, and the human body.

The Quito Film Collective connects Screen Arts and Cultures faculty and students at the University of Michigan, Film, Video, and New Media MFA students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, with global health researchers, medical students and professional documentary filmmakers.

The collective received the Ginsberg Student, International Individual and McVay Fellowships for the production of "The Healing."
